Flexible chimney liners

Over time the interiors of chimney flues can deteriorate due to acid erosion. Mortar can become loose and bricks can be dislodged.

This can result in flued gases (smoke) leaking into rooms and/or the loft space.

Quite often the internal dimensions of the flue are too great for the stove being installed, this can result in the stove not working as efficiently as it could.

Below is a quote from Document J (building regulations) :-
(1.38) ‘A flue may need to be lined to reduce the flue area to suit the intended appliance. Oversize flues can be unsafe’

You can alleviate these conditions by fitting a stainless steel flexible liner :-

What products are suitable?

  • For a Wood burning stove a grade 316 flexible liner (10 year guarantee)
  • For a multi-fuel stove a grade 904 flexible liner (25 year guarantee)
  • These are supplied in 4’’/5’’/6’’ & 7’’ diameters.

What are the benefits of having a flue liner fitted?

  • Harmful fumes will be contained in a sealed environment
  • The stove will be more controllable, efficiency may be improved
  • The flue will heat up quicker meaning the stove will reach its operating temperature sooner
  • Flue is easier to clean
  • More cost effective than refurbishing the chimney flue
  • Condensation will be significantly reduced, this means that tarring is minimised

Many HETAS certified fireplace retailers will NOT fit a stove unless the chimney flue is relined or a flexible liner is installed.

Grange Reproductions strongly recommend that unlined flues are lined with a stainless steel flexible liner. This is endorsed by the stove manufacturers.

Until further notice all flexible liners purchased at the same time as a stove will be discounted
